Fall Decorating

I  have been a bit behind on decorating the house for fall. Normally, Oct 1 comes around and we break out all the Halloween stuff and really enjoy it for the full month. But, since our house is on the market, we are not allowed to decorate for Halloween - just fall. Now, I do miss the Halloween decor, but I really like fall decor as well.

Have you noticed all the 'natural' decor on Pinterest lately?  Lots of white pumpkins, burlap, berries, acorns  pine cones, etc. I must say, I really love natural decor. However, I find myself wanting a little more color. Like, regular pumpkins, red leaves, red berries, etc.

So, after seeing several blog posts and ideas - I have been inspired to get my act together and get at least a few things done. So, I did my mantle and dining table. Want to see?

I really wish I could use real flowers. But, honestly, I kill plants. My thumb is as black as they come. And, since I just so happened to have these in the basement, I decided to use them!  Then, the youngest and I went outside and picked up a bucket of acorn tops - with a few whole acorns. I must remember to do this much earlier - the squirrels have already had their feasts.

Also made a trip to the store today, and found a little package of the small pumpkins for $3. That is probably not a deal to write home about, but it was easy and I like the way they look. And really, it's $3.

I had some fabric on hand to make a table runner. It looks natural like burlap, but WAY easier to work with. I will be able to use this as a backdrop for all seasons. I like that!

The 'pumpkins' on the table were inspired by this post. They are toilet paper wrapped in fabric. I really prefer the look of the driftwood for the stem, but I didn't have access to that today. I may be able to find big sticks to use - so these may change. But, again, I had the flowers and decided to use them. I do like the color they add. I did pick up this fabric at the store today for $4.

So, for a total of $7 - I have my fall decor. Best yet, when we are done, the few pieces I will save for next year will fit in a shoe box. I am really trying to minimize 'stuff' but still make our house feel like home. Hopefully someone will want to buy our house at some point so we will be moving.

How do you like to decorate for the fall? Do you have favorite design blogs you go to regularly? Do you surf Pinterest?

  3. Thanks ladies. Beth - do you have a shelf you could decorate? Obviously, I am on the keep it simple plan. Maybe just one shelf that would be easy to change out for the seasons?
