Buckeyes for Halloween

This is a special treat I make most years for Halloween. And since we are getting close to Halloween, I thought I would share! These are ALWAYS a hit at school and parties. It has become a requested item.

You can use any buckeye recipe you prefer for the balls. There are even some healthier peanut butter ball recipes (like this one) you could use as the base. Using the white chocolate is the key to making them look like eyeballs. I have a hard time finding the red decorator gel before December, so mine have evolved into monster eyes - using whatever colors I can find at the time.

Buckeyes for Halloween

1 lb Peanut Butter
1/2 lb Butter
1.5 lb Powdered Sugar

1 bag White Chocolate Chips
1/2 stick paraffin

mini chocolate chips
decorator gel

1. Line cookie sheets with wax paper. I like to use 2-3 smaller sheets instead of one large. Comes in handy when dipping.
2. Melt butter. Mix with Peanut Butter and Powdered Sugar. Form into balls.  Insert tooth picks into each ball. Place on cookie sheets. Refrigerate overnight (or 2 hours).
3. Use a double boiler and melt chips and paraffin.  Dip each ball into chocolate mixture - covering 3/4 of each ball. Return to wax paper. Refrigerate. I take one sheet out at a time to keep balls chilled as long as possible.
3. remove tooth picks. Insert chocolate chip (pointed side down) into hole left from tooth pick. Use decorator gel to add squiggles.

And there you have it! Yummy eyeballs for a fun Halloween treat! Just be careful - these are NOT good for you.

  1. My oldest saw the picture of these and decided I HAD to make them!! So, we're having friends over to watch football this weekend and they have four kids, so with a slew of kids in the house, seems like the prefect time to whip these up! Thanks so much for sharing the idea!

  2. Good luck! I usually make these in stages. PB and ball rolling one day. Chocolate dipping another day. Luckily, we have a second fridge. So they can just hang out until I have time to get to them. Hope everyone likes them! They are always a crowd favorite around here.

    1. Thanks Dani. We live in a small neighborhood, so I give these out to adults and kids during trick-o-treating. Let me know if you try them.
